PNB rip-off: Extradition course of towards absconding jeweller Mehul Choksi underway in Antigua; took citizenship final 12 months

New Delhi: The extradition course of towards absconding diamond jeweller Mehul Choksi has begun in Antigua, official sources stated on Wednesday.

They stated Indian investigative businesses just like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have despatched throughout paperwork to authorities in Antigua to peruse and ship again Choksi to India, accused within the $2 billion PNB fraud case alongside along with his nephew Nirav Modi and others.

Nirav Modi was arrested by the London Police on Wednesday as a part of an analogous extradition request India despatched towards him to the UK authorities. “The extradition process against Choksi is on and we are hopeful of a positive response from the authorities of Antigua and Barbuda,” they stated.

“The legal processes are on, and the probe agencies are looking forward to the next intimation by the authorities of that country,” the official sources added.

Choksi took Antiguan citizenship final 12 months after he surrendered his Indian passport.

In August final 12 months, India handed over Antigua a request for Choksi’s extradition.

Choksi, who left India final 12 months, is needed by the CBI and the ED, that are probing the PNB fraud case, the most important banking rip-off within the nation.
