Here’s a look at top smartphones that launched in October 2017.

Another interesting month comes to an end, and the one where we saw a variety of smartphones being launched – right from the entry-level to the high-end devices. October started with the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL being launched in San Francisco, followed by Honor 9i, Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 and Nokia 2. With Reliance Jio offering an “effectively free” smart feature phone, called JioPhone, incumbent operators also partnered other smartphone companies to offer low-cost devices, priced under Rs 3,000. Here’s a look at top 10 smartphones that were launched in October 2017.

Nokia 2

With the Nokia 2, HMD Global entered the entry-level segment. Priced around 99 Euros (approximately Rs 7,500), the smartphone is set to go on sale in mid-November. It comes with a 5-inch HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 SoC, 1GB of RAM and 8GB onboard storage. Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL

Google launched its second-generation Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, with prices starting from Rs 61,000 and going all the way up to Rs 82,000. Pre-orders for the same have already kicked off in India, and the smartphones are expected to become available starting November 15. While the Pixel 2 features a rather boring design, the Pixel 2 XL comes with an edge-to-edge display. Xiaomi Mi MIX 2

While Xiaomi didn’t launch the Mi MIX in India last year, it did ensure that this year’s Mi MIX 2 makes it to the Indian shores. Aggressively priced at Rs 35,999, the smartphone features a 5.99-inch edge-to-edge display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Honor 9i

Yes, these days all smartphone manufacturers are opting for edge-to-edge displays, and Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has also launched the 9i with a full screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio. But besides the display, the Honor 9i has other key USP – dual front and rear cameras. Oppo F5

Successor to the F3, the new Oppo F5 comes with a full screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Camera has been the key focus of Oppo smartphones, and the F5 continues with the same – it features a 20-megapixel f/2.0 front camera powered by artificial intelligence. Essentially, it will examine every angle of your face “to create the perfectly refined and natural selfie”. The camera also adjusts lighting according to the background. Sony Xperia R1, R1 Plus

Sony quietly launched two new mid-range smartphones in India called the Xperia R1 priced at Rs 12,990, and R1 Plus priced at Rs 14,990. Both smartphones feature 5.2-inch HD (720p) displays and are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC. In the photography department, the smartphones feature a 13-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. The only differentiator in both smartphones is the amount of RAM and onboard storage. Karbonn A40 Indian

To compete with Reliance JioPhone, Airtel partnered domestic handset vendor Karbonn to offer the A40 Indian smartphone for an “effective price” of Rs 1,399. Micromax Bharat 1 4G

State run BSNL, on the other hand, partnered Micromax to launch the Bharat 1 4G phone at Rs 2,200. Just like the JioPhone, the Bharat 1 4G is also a smart feature phone with dual-SIM card slots and 3G/4G connectivity. Bharat 2 Ultra 4G

After launching the Bharat 1 4G smartphone in partnership with BSNL, Micromax also partnered Vodafone to launch the Bharat 2 Ultra 4G smartphone ‘effectively priced’ at Rs 999. Last in the list is the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2017), which is priced at Rs 7,390. The smartphone features a 4.7-inch super AMOLED display, quad-core SoC paired with 1GB of RAM.
