MP3 format is now officially dead

MP3 the popular music file format is going to dead because it’s licence has terminated.It offered it’s services for the last two decades. It allowed for easy downloading of audio files during the days of broadband internet and easily transfer the compacts discs(CD’S) into the digital file format.

Fraunhofer institute for integrated circuits which has the patent rights for MP3 audio format has announced that it is no longer available. Fraunhofer institute officially stated that:

On April 23,2017, Technicolor’s MP3 licensing program for mp3 related patents and software of technicolor’s and fraunhofer IIS has been terminated.

The institute says that nowadays streaming, TV and radio service providers are using the ISO-MPEG codecs like AAC family or MPEG-H. It’s also said that the reason behind the terminating it’s licence “they will introduce the new features better than the MP3 format in upcoming days”.
