Matt Reeves Developing New Cop Drama With Hell on Wheels Creators

Matt Reeves, director of this summer’s War for the Planet of the Apes and DCEU’s upcoming The Batman will produce the potential FOX cop drama, The Dime with the creators of Hell on WheelsThe Dime is based on the book of the same name by bestselling author Kathleen Kent and will follow Brooklyn lesbian police officer Betty Rhyzyck who moves to Dallas with her girlfriend to lead a group of detectives.

The Gayton brothers are a talented duo and proved so by writing and producing Hell on Wheels which ran for five seasons on AMC. Adding Matt Reeves to the team can only be a good thing. Deadline reports that Reeves, Adam Kassan, and Rafi Crohn will executive produce via Reeves’ 6th & Idaho.

Reeves has been helming movies and TV Series since 1996, but it was in 2008 where he got his big break, with the J.J. Abrams-produced found-footage sci-fi flick Cloverfield. Reeves was really launched into the stratosphere in 2014 when he directed the critically acclaimed and box office hit, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, taking over from Rupert Wyatt who directed Rise of the Planet of the Apes. He followed that up with War for the Planet of the Apes earlier this year. Many are calling the new Apes movies one of the best trilogies in recent memory, and that’s largely thanks to Reeves work on Dawn and War. Through those films Reeves has shown that he’s excellent at directing character-driven dramas, but is also more than competent when it comes to helming action sequences. This led to Warner Bros. hiring Reeves to direct the upcoming solo Batman movie under the DCEU banner.

As far as producing goes, Reeves doesn’t have a stacked resume. However, he always chooses his projects wisely. Apart from being an EP on the critically lauded Felicity, Reeves executive produced 10 Cloverfield Lane, which turned out to be a big hit in the critic’s circle and grossed more than $110 million worldwide. Reeves addition to The Dime‘s team is sure to get both critics and audiences pumped for the new series in the months to come.
