Reading can change your life. Opening up pages of books and finding a bit of yourself in there is the best feeling in the world. Books also unleash ideas and sometimes can be an eye-opener.
If you have always been a reader, you obviously know all this. If you aren’t, you still have time to pick up a book, any book! Need some motivation to get into the reading habit? How about seeking inspiration from these Bollywood stars?! When they aren’t reading scripts and dialogues they have a book in hand most days.
These Bollywood stars are self-confessed readers and love their books. Some even have an envious collection!
#1. Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan is a book hoarder and this makes people like me feel good about throwing money away on yet more books! In an old interview, he was quoted saying, “I read anything and everything… I read three or four books at a time. I go to bookstores when I’m in London or America. I get a coffee and keep browsing for hours—something I can’t do in India. I come back home with a bagful of books. I’m always stopped at customs as they think I’m carrying some heavy electronic items!”
The Simran reading on a Swiss train from DDLJ has something in common with the actor playing her. Kajol is almost always accompanied by her books. She said “I don’t watch movies. I really don’t. I’m not a movie person! But my guilty pleasure are my books actually. I read a lot of books. I love vampires, werewolves, everything with fangs and abnormalities on them.”
#3. Rahul Bose
Catcher in The Rye is Rahul Bose’s favorite novel. He spoke about the book almost reverently and said “The Catcher in the Rye is a definitive tale of hope, it’s death and new life. It pretends to be an adolescent fable but is a novel for all ages. The book taught me that the only thing that comes between us and love is fear — fear of rejection. But after reading the book I shot through my fear and learnt to love.” (If you haven’t read this one, I highly recommend it! It changed my life!)
#4. Randeep Hooda
Randeep has some eclectic taste for his reads. “I read every day. I think reading makes your imagination big. My favorite book is Papillon by Henri Charriere. It’s a very old book about a prison escape. Then I like The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and there are a number of others.”
#5. Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor is a voracious reader and she has always been outspoken about her love for reading. She is quite a Potter fan as well! In her Instagram post, she says, “My childhood was spent reading her books, they say kids who read #harrypotter ended up having a stronger moral compass. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve waved an imaginary wand in the air and shouted Expecto Patronum! and felt every bit the witch or the wizard that Harry, Ron & Hermione were!”
#6. Saif Ali Khan
Saif Ali Khan got into reading out of sheer boredom and now swears by it. He even got his wife Kareena into the habit. In an interview with DNA, he said, “I was always into reading ’cause I grew up in a crumbling old palace in Bhopal. And then books that were lying around — my father’s books. I mean in his later years he mostly was into the easy reads kind of books like John le Carre, Robert Ludlum — The Bourne Identity kind of novels. So I always enjoyed reading.”
